we have the right to copy a dvd that we buy for backup ?
if yes, this backup could be as vcd-kvcd-svcd-skvcd....etc?

---> or only in dvd ?

i need to know the law about that backup and what format can be used

thanks!

In Germany its veeeery easy:

You can copy to whatever media you want

IF: you dont have to deactivate/kill a copyprotection of a source if a protection is added. So since the new law is present: Ripping apps. like SmartRipper or DVDdecrypter are prohibited in Germany.

This depends on what country the person who asked you live, varies from country to country.

Not anymore! There has been a law change here in Denmark recently, 1/1-04, so now we are not allowed to take CD's form the library, and make a copy of it for personal use. We're only allowed to backup CD's, DVD's etc that we own ourselves. Just like in almost any other country.

Hey Jorel,

my understanding is the media/format you backup to is your choice, as long as you own the original.

dvdrhelp.com has a number of threads on the legalities of this,

cheers,
